Citizen TV recruits from KTN

 

Citizen TV has poached three top journalists after raiding the newsroom and bagging the KTN Managing editor Joe Ageyo and news anchor Yvonne Okwara.

Citizen which is under Royal Media Services has already poached NTV journalists with Jamila Mohammed being appointed Swahili Managing Editor – a position once held by Swaleh Mdoe in an acting capacity – while Victoria Rubadiri and another senior editor are said to be serving notice at the twin towers.

According to Business Today the journalists who have been poached by Citizen are  Asha Mwilu (CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year), Miswaleh Zingizi (Deputy Managing Editor-Swahili), and Senior News Editor Noah Otieno.

This seems to be a move by Royal Media to beef up it’s newsroom for a serious year of news delivery ahead.

An internal memo from the group managing director Wachira Waruru, read in part:

“ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD AND MANAGEMENT OF THE ROYAL MEDIA SERVICES LIMITED (RMS), I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE NEW APPOINTMENTS AND SEVERAL INTERNAL MANAGEMENT CHANGES TO STRENGTHEN OUR STRATEGIC VISION AND DIRECTION. THESE CHANGES WILL ENABLE US TO POSITION FOR LONG TERM GROWTH AND BOLSTER OUR POSITION AS MARKET LEADER OF KENYA’S BROADCASTING INDUSTRY.”

Most of the new appointments are from Nation Media Group. Former NTV anchor Jamila Mohammed has been named as the Managing Editor (Swahili) replacing Swaleh Mdoe, who has been acting in the position.

Former NTV General Manager Linus Kaikai has been named as Director, Strategy and Innovation while former KTN Managing Editor Joe Ageyo has been confirmed as Editorial Director.

Other changes include Pamela Asigi been named as the Managing Editor (English) and radio journalist Vincent Ateya bagging the Head of Mulembe FM /Sulwe FM /Vuuka FM.
